How To Stick To Your New Years Resolutions In 2017
I've always felt like the real new year is in spring. Fresh green buds bursting out all over the place. Everything waking from a deep slumber. Spring feels like a proper beginning - all positive and full of promise. Whereas the 1st of January, in my part of the world, can often feel like an empty limbo. While I do find a lot of beauty and positive attributes to the depths of winter, I don't see it as a true beginning. It's a time to go inside, literally and metaphorically, and make sure you're prepared on all levels for the fresh start of spring. It can be difficult to start anew when the physical world outside your window is all bare and closed down for the season.
But, life plays out on more than one level and the 1st of January is when most of the world celebrates the start of a new cycle and many things get reset in the practical world . Even though I don't agree with the Gregorian calendars notion of the start of the new year, my faith in the power of symbolism has me has me frantically writing down all of the things I wish to achieve in 2017. So, even though the trees are bare and the sun don't shine, my head will still acknowledge today as a new beginning. My heart will celebrate the new year when I see my first fresh shoots of grass busting up through the earth.
I often get over-excited creating lists of goals and resolutions and create way too many and then don't know which ones to focus on. This year I am trying a new approach. Maybe you can try the same approach with me? I'm going to write down 4 or 5 big dreams/goals that cover my work and personal life. This small number will help me to focus and keep things a bit more simple. I will then break each goal down into manageable steps, either monthly mini-targets or quarterly goals. Lastly (the hippy bit) I will meditate on the end goals, visualising each one as already being a reality - picture it already existing in the most glorious way imaginable. There are many different viewpoints on this "manifestation" malarkey. I personally see it as a practical magic, nothing woo woo or mystical. I believe that visualising your dreams sets them in your noggin as something real and achievable rather than you perceiving them as a fantasy. If you can sit in silence and picture yourself doing and being the things you most desire, it makes working towards those dreams so much more plausible. Try it.
